WELL COME TO STEP
What is STEP?
STEP (Step Towards Empowerment of the Poor) is a non-government, non political and non-profitable voluntary development organization. STEP started its functioning since 2001.
Background:
STEP began its journey from January 2001 with compliance with the phase-out policy of Shapla Neer (Shapla Neer=Citizens’ Committee in Japan for Overseas Support). Shapla Neer had every intention to institutionalize its Community Development Centers (CDC) located at Poyla, Ghior, Manikganj to be worked as a local independent organization and serve for the betterment for the locality. After getting registration from NGOAB Shapla Neer handed over staff and assets to STEP. Shapla Neer and STEP execute an agreement to complete the hand over process on April 29, 2003 after then STEP started activities independently. Since its inception, STEP has been focusing on local issues and working in collaboration of local stakeholders.
Education
STEP is continuing the children’s education program on its own initiative to facilitate the children’s reading and writing of the common people of the area. For that purpose, Step has established a school on its own premises in Poyla village of Ghior upazila of Manikganj district. The purpose of establishment of schools is to provide modern facilities and education to common people children’s in remote areas. At present, near about 200 hundred students study in Step K.G schools.
